Honda e:HEV Self-Charging Hybrid Technology

Self-charging electric hybrid power – no plugs, no charging stations.

Overview

Honda’s e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) technology is a revolutionary dual-motor hybrid system engineered to deliver smooth electric performance without relying on external charging infrastructure. In a mountain environment like Bhutan, the system excels by capturing energy during downhill descents and storing it in a high-voltage lithium-ion battery.

How the 3 drive modes work

EV Drive Mode

The vehicle runs 100% on battery power via the electric propulsion motor. Ideal for quiet, zero-emission urban driving in cities like Thimphu and Paro.

Hybrid Drive Mode

The petrol engine powers an electric generator, which in turn feeds electricity directly to the propulsion motor for instant acceleration when climbing steep inclines.

Engine Drive Mode

At high-speed cruising on open highways, a lock-up clutch directly connects the petrol engine to the wheels for maximum fuel efficiency.

Key advantages for Bhutan

  • No charging station needed: charges itself as you drive.
  • Brake energy recovery: downhill driving recharges the battery continuously.
  • Fuel economy: achieves up to 27 km/L, significantly reducing fuel expenditure.
